Speeches at the 22nd Memorial Meeting of Former Religious Adviser

“Journalist Syed Mostafa Jamal was a humble, principled, humanitarian and socially conscious person.”

On 22 April 2026 at 3:00 PM, on the occasion of the 22nd death anniversary of language veteran, journalist, and social organizer Syed Mostafa Jamal, a discussion meeting was organized by the Bangladesh Social Welfare Association at the Tanjimul Moslemin Orphanage auditorium located at Shah Amanat Dargah Lane in the city.

In the chief guest’s speech, former Religious Adviser Professor Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain said that language veteran, journalist, and social organizer Syed Mostafa Jamal was a humble, selfless, and deeply good human being. He played a significant role in organizing the Language Movement in the Chattogram region as one of its pioneering activists in 1952. During the movement for state language, he led extensive strikes in Dhaka, Chattogram, and South Chattogram. He also played an important role as the convener of the State Language Movement in Greater Satkania Thana.

He further said that Syed Mostafa Jamal’s father, Maulana Syed Soltan Ahmed, was an active organizer of the Indian National Congress and played a significant role in the anti-British movement. He was also the first general secretary of the Kolkata-based Nikhil Bengal Primary Teachers Association and had been imprisoned for his role in the anti-British struggle.

Dr. Khalid Hossain added that Syed Mostafa Jamal was involved in journalism for more than three decades. He worked as sub-editor and correspondent in various newspapers including Daily Azad, Daily Sangbad, Daily Millat, and Saptahik Sainik. He was consistently a modest, principled, humanitarian, and socially committed person who devoted his life to the welfare of people. Inspired by the ideology of Maulana Bhashani, he dreamt of establishing an exploitation-free society through the realization of “Mawlana Robubiyat.” He was also actively influenced by and followed the ideals of his father throughout his life.
