
Farhad Rahman Teknaf Correspondent The armed attack, kidnapping and brutal torture of Jamal Uddin, a former UP member of Hnila Union in Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar, has created a sensation in the area. Various social, political and journalist circles have expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the incident and have demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and exemplary punishment. It is learned that on Monday (July 27) at approximately 9:10 pm, a group of armed miscreants forcibly took Jamal Uddin from the Chhaydullah Market area of Hnila Bus Station at gunpoint. Eyewitnesses claim that the attackers fired several rounds of blank bullets to create panic during the kidnapping. Then the miscreants took him to a secluded place and severely beat and tortured him. Later, in a seriously injured condition, they left him in an area next to the Roads and Highways Department adjacent to Hnila Moin Uddin Memorial College and fled. Local people heard his screams and rushed to the spot and rescued him. Initially, he was given primary treatment at a local clinic, but as his physical condition deteriorated, he was sent to Cox's Bazar for advanced treatment. Describing the incident of such an armed attack and kidnapping on a former public representative and journalist as very worrying, various quarters said that such an incident is not only an attack on an individual, but also a threat to the freedom of the media and public safety. The speakers demanded that the real criminals be identified through a fair, impartial and speedy investigation of the incident and brought to justice, as well as ensuring exemplary punishment for them. At the same time, they wished for the speedy recovery of the injured Jamal Uddin and expected effective steps from the concerned administration.
