According to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces carried out \u201cactive hostilities and terrorist shelling,\u201d targeting both frontline areas and cities. In the northeastern Sumy<\/span><\/span> region, a woman was killed after a kindergarten was struck early \u09ac\u09c1\u09a7\u09ac\u09be\u09b0 morning. Authorities confirmed that no children were present at the time of the attack.<\/p>\n

The escalation comes amid competing ceasefire announcements by Ukraine<\/span><\/span> and Russia<\/span><\/span> earlier this week, with no agreement reached on terms, duration, or monitoring mechanisms.<\/p>\n

Moscow had first proposed a temporary truce for 8\u20139 May to coincide with Victory Day<\/span><\/span>, marking the Soviet Union\u2019s victory over Nazi Germany. Kyiv responded by announcing its own open-ended ceasefire starting \u09ae\u0999\u09cd\u0997\u09b2\u09ac\u09be\u09b0 midnight, pledging to act \u201csymmetrically.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zelensky said Russia\u2019s continued attacks demonstrated \u201can obvious spurning of a ceasefire and of saving lives,\u201d adding that Ukraine would determine its next steps based on military and intelligence assessments.<\/p>\n

Heavy fighting on Tuesday reportedly killed at least 27 people across Ukraine, including 12 in Zaporizhzhia<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Ukraine\u2019s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha<\/span><\/span> criticized Moscow\u2019s actions, stating that calls for a ceasefire were \u201cfake\u201d and driven by preparations for military celebrations rather than genuine diplomacy.<\/p>\n

Russia is set to hold events this Saturday, including a military parade at Red Square<\/span><\/span>. Authorities have indicated that this year\u2019s \u0645\u0631\u0627\u0633\u0645 will be scaled down due to security concerns, citing potential threats from Ukrainian drone strikes.<\/p>\n

Residents in Moscow<\/span><\/span> and St Petersburg<\/span><\/span> have been warned of possible mobile internet disruptions during the period.<\/p>\n

The Kremlin<\/span><\/span> has not directly responded to Ukraine\u2019s ceasefire initiative. Instead, it has warned of a \u201cmassive missile strike\u201d on central Kyiv if Ukraine breaches Russia\u2019s proposed truce.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ukraine has continued long-range drone operations inside Russia. On Tuesday, strikes reportedly reached the city of Cheboksary<\/span><\/span>, more than 1,500km from Ukrainian territory, killing two people.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s defence ministry said it intercepted 53 Ukrainian drones overnight but did not clarify whether the attacks occurred after Kyiv\u2019s ceasefire came into effect.<\/p>\n

The latest developments highlight the deepening \u057c\u0561\u0566\u0574\u0561\u056f\u0561\u0576 stalemate and lack of coordination between the \u09a6\u09c1\u0987 \u09aa\u0995\u09cd\u09b7, raising further doubts over the prospects for any meaningful ceasefire in the near term.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
