The government has imposed a 58-day ban on fishing in the Bay of Bengal to preserve marine biodiversity and ensure the free reproduction and increase in production of 475 species of fish. According to this decision , all types of fishing in the sea will be completely banned from midnight on Wednesday until June 11.The government has provided special assistance to fishermen to protect their livelihoods during this ban. A total of 3,11,062 sea-going fishermen, including 67 upazilas of 14 coastal districts and Chittagong metropolis, will be distributed rice as food aid at the rate of 40 kg per month for 58 days under the VGF program, BSS reported .It is worth noting that during the 58-day ban in 2025 to protect fish reproduction , law enforcement agencies conducted extensive operations in the maritime waters of Bangladesh. During this time, a total of 3,585 operations were conducted and 136 mobile courts were operated. During the operations.
