A Dhaka court has placed Salman F Rahman, former industry and investment adviser to ex-prime minister Sheikh Hasina and vice chairman of the Beximco Group, on a four-day remand in connection with a loan fraud involving Janata Bank’s Export Development Fund (EDF).
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order today (26 January), ACC Public Prosecutor Tarikul Islam confirmed.
Earlier, the investigating officer produced Salman F Rahman before the court and sought a five-day remand. Following the hearing, the court granted four days of remand.
According to case documents, Salman F Rahman and others allegedly facilitated the approval and disbursement of loans, including EDF facilities, through Janata Bank’s Dhaka office in favour of a newly established company, Skynet Apparels Limited.
Despite having no prior business experience, the company’s directors are accused of generating “accommodation bills” by showing fictitious import-export transactions among themselves using Bangladesh Bank letters of credit (BBLC).
Investigators allege that export proceeds amounting to $1,555,465 were not repatriated and that a total of $14,729,340—equivalent to approximately Tk136.98 crore at the 2022 average exchange rate—was misappropriated and laundered through transfer, conversion and layering.
The case was filed on 3 November 2025 by Md Mahabub Morshed, assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), against Salman F Rahman and 21 others.
