Turbulent East Pakistan. The Bengali language movement was going on. In the context of the internal strife and disintegration of the Muslim League , poverty and famine throughout the province, the work of organizational expansion of the new political party East Pakistan Muslim Awami League was going on with enthusiasm. Everyone, regardless of party affiliation, was being called to join the Awami League. Mainly the President Maulana Bhasani , General Secretary Shamsul Haque were going around the province holding meetings to organize the Awami League. Local committees were being formed. Muslim League leaders and activists were joining the Awami League. Because the promise of general elections in the province was ahead.
The state of the country, especially East Bengal, during the Muslim League government can be gauged from the anger of the people all over the country over the language movement. On the one hand, there was a heavy-handed administration , millions of taka were spent from the state funds for the comforts of ministers and elders , and new taxes were imposed on the people day by day to meet this expenditure. As a result, unemployment and famine arose everywhere in Pakistan.
The ruling Muslim League government was busy dealing with immense pressure at home and abroad. The Pakistan government at that time involved itself in imperialist intrigues. There was strong condemnation against this policy. On the other hand, the state language movement gained momentum.
