“Practicing Nazrul will create a humane, non-sectarian, and enlightened generation”

Contemplative seminar on the occasion of the 127th birth anniversary of national poet Nazrul Islam in Chittagong A deeply significant and intellectual seminar was held at the Meron Sun School and College Auditorium in Chawkbazar, Chittagong city, on the occasion of the 127th birth anniversary of the national poet of Bangladesh, Kazi Nazrul Islam. Organized on Monday (25 May 2026) at 4 pm, this seminar was not just a memorial meeting—rather, it was an intellectual attempt to reintroduce Nazrul’s philosophy, humanity, rebellion and the spirit of equality to the new generation. The program was organized by “Itihaser Pathshala” and “Juiful”. Nazrul: The Poet of Humanity Beyond Time The speakers at the seminar said in one word—Kazi Nazrul Islam is not a poet of a specific era; he is the name of an eternal human spirit that transcends time. They said that Nazrul’s literature is not just poetry or songs—it is a social philosophy, a protest attitude and the basis of a humane state ideology. In the words of one speaker— “Understanding Nazrul does not mean just reading literature, but understanding the responsibility of man towards humanity.” The important part of the program and the leadership seminar were presided over by Sufi poet Shahzada Syed Mohammad Sirajuddaula. The program was conducted by Sohel Mohammad Fakhrud-Din, director and editor of “Itihaser Pathshala”. The chief guest was eminent educationist and historian Dr. Mohammad Sanaullah. Writer-researcher and journalist Mohammad Kamal Uddin spoke as the main discussant. The program was inaugurated by writer and researcher DK Das Mamun. Analysis of speakers: Why is Nazrul’s philosophy still relevant today The speakers said in their speeches—When division, religious intolerance, social degradation and moral crisis are increasing in the current world, Nazrul’s philosophy has become even more relevant. They mentioned— 1. The spirit of humanity Nazrul said— “The song of equality— There is nothing greater than man, not even something noble.” This spirit still teaches people to rise above the divisions of race, religion and caste. 2. Strong stand against communalism Nazrul wrote— “Mora are two daisies on the same stalk—Hindu and Muslim.” The speakers said that this one line is a powerful cultural weapon against communalism. 3. Philosophy of rebellion Nazrul’s “rebellious” poetry is not just a political rebellion—it is an eternal protest against injustice, injustice, exploitation and discrimination. “I am an eternal rebellious hero—I have left the world alone, an eternally elevated head!” The discussion brought up the reality of education and society. The participants in the discussion were—
educationist and politician Mohammad Habibur Rahman, writer Dulal Kanti Barua, educationist Babul Kanti Das, Sameeran Barua,
freedom fighter Golam Nabi, founder of Juiful, GM Mamunur Rashid, publisher Mohammad Muddasisar Hasan,
Sufi thinker Omar Faruk Shahadat Hossain, etc. They said that it is important to consider Nazrul not only as a writer, but also as a social reformer and thinker of human liberation. Nazrul Charcha: Why is it important for the new generation? The speakers specifically said— Today’s young generation is dependent on technology, but in many cases it is moving away from human values. In this situation, Nazrul Charcha can be a moral and cultural revival. According to them— Nazrul Charcha means humanism.
Nazrul’s teachings mean learning tolerance Nazrul’s philosophy means standing against injustice Nazrul’s consciousness means building a non-communal society Main decisions and calls of the seminar In the last part of the program, the speakers made several important calls – Nazrul’s practice should be further expanded in educational institutions Human values should be added to cultural activities Young people should be interested in literature, history and philosophy Instead of hatred, the practice of compassion and harmony should be increased in society Nazrul should be made a part of life outside the textbooks Conclusion: Revival of a consciousness This seminar was not just a memorial meeting – it was the revival of a consciousness. Nazrul taught us – “I am an eternal rebel hero… I am a fire against sorrow-poverty-injustice.”
This fire consciousness still awakens society, teaches people to ask questions, and inspires them to stand against injustice. The speakers had a unique understanding – Nazrul should not only be remembered, but should be embraced at every level of life. Only then will it be possible to build a humane, non-communal, tolerant and enlightened Bangladesh. Because in the end, Nazrul is not the name of a poet, he is the name of a consciousness; a consciousness that teaches people to be human throughout the ages.
