Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed satisfaction with the way the election campaign is going on across the country . He said that the way the election campaign is going on is peaceful , cordial and encouraging. No one is saying harsh words against anyone , no rude behavior is seen. This is a very positive change for the political history and culture of the country. He said these things at a high-level meeting related to the election at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday. After the meeting, the Principal Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam gave this information to journalists at a briefing in front of the Jamuna. BSS reported.
The meeting reviewed in detail the preparations , deployment of security forces and possible challenges ahead of the national elections to be held on February 12. Quoting the Chief Advisor, Shafiqul Alam said , “So far, the preparations for organizing the elections have been completed very well. We are satisfied , we are very happy , ” said Professor Yunus. However, he mentioned the issue of completing the voting in a fair and accurate manner as the biggest challenge ahead. Now our goal is to complete the voting in a fair and accurate manner, he said. The Chief Advisor said , “The coming week is very important as there are only four days left for the voting.” He expressed optimism that the voting will be safe and festive. He also expressed the expectation that women will vote happily and people with their families will participate in the voting festival . The Chief Advisor said , ” I hope that this election will be memorable in history.” Regarding the meeting, Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor , said that one of the important topics discussed was election-time security measures , especially the deployment of body – worn cameras for law enforcement agencies. He said that there are about 43,000 polling stations across the country. Of these, 25,700 will be covered by body – worn cameras.
During the meeting , a live demonstration of how these cameras work was given. The press secretary said that as part of a random test , the chief advisor directly interacted with members wearing body – worn cameras assigned to five locations. These included remote areas like Tentulia in Panchagarh and Matiranga in Khagrachhari.
Shafiqul Alam said , these places were not pre-determined , they were selected completely randomly. The exhibition showed that the body – worn cameras are working properly. He said , the meeting also discussed the ‘Election Security App’ , which is now fully operational. This app will be used only by the officials in charge of the election and members of the security forces. If chaos , violence or unrest occurs inside or outside any polling station , then through this app, an alert can be immediately sent to the security forces , returning officers and the central Election Commission. This will make it possible to intervene quickly and bring the situation under control, said the press secretary.
Shafiqul Alam said , this app is a tested and effective system. During Durga Puja, about 32 thousand puja mandap were brought under this app and it worked successfully then. He further said that in the meeting , Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed presented the overall picture of the election preparations. Besides, the heads of law enforcement agencies gave the latest information on the deployment of members in the elections. According to this information , about 9 lakh security members will be deployed in the upcoming elections. Out of this, the number of members of the armed forces including the army , navy and air force is more than 1 lakh 8 thousand.
The press secretary said that 1 lakh 8 thousand 885 members of the armed forces have already been deployed. Apart from this, 37 thousand 453 BGB members in 1 thousand 210 platoons are also performing duties in specific areas. Apart from this, 3 thousand 585 members of the Coast Guard have been deployed in 20 upazilas and 69 unions of 17 constituencies of 10 districts. However, the deployment of 1 lakh 57 thousand members of the police will start from the morning of February 11. In addition, a sufficient number of RAB members will also be deployed for election duty, said Shafiqul Alam.
