China will introduce zero-tariff treatment for imports from 53 African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations, starting May 1, 2026, state media reported on Saturday.

According to the report, Beijing will also continue promoting the negotiation and signing of joint economic partnership agreements with African nations.

China plans to further expand market access for African exports through upgraded trade facilitation measures, including its so-called “green channel” mechanism aimed at easing entry for eligible goods into the Chinese market.

The move is expected to strengthen China-Africa trade ties and support African exporters by reducing barriers to the Chinese market.
