The government has decided to bring marginal fish farms, hatcheries, and livestock and poultry farms under its electricity rebate scheme, allowing them a 20% discount on power bills.
The decision, aimed at easing production costs for farmers and hatchery owners, was announced in a press release issued today (26 January) by Md Mamun Hassan, senior information and public relations officer of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
Currently, 16 sectors receive a 20% electricity rebate under the government’s power rebate policy, which seeks to support agricultural production, boost agro-based exports, and promote related industries. Under the latest move, the Finance Division has approved a Tk100 crore subsidy for four sectors overseen by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
These sectors include animal and poultry feed manufacturing, fish feed production, the poultry industry, and dairy processing. Dairy processing encompasses activities such as milk pasteurisation, powdered milk production, ice cream, condensed milk, sweets, cheese, ghee, butter, chocolate, and yoghurt.
The government believes the initiative will substantially lower production costs, encourage industrial investment, and help Bangladesh move closer to self-sufficiency in producing safe and high-quality animal protein.
