The Bangladesh Army has arrested a man for allegedly demanding extortion money from newly elected Chattogram-15 (Satkania–Lohagara) Member of Parliament Alhaj Shahjahan Chowdhury by impersonating an officer of the National Security Intelligence (NSI).

The accused, Md. Fakhruddin (35), was detained on Saturday (February 14) afternoon from the Chhamdar Para area of Satkania municipality. Fakhruddin is the son of late Abdur Razzak of Bainjuri village in Barama Union under Chandanaish upazila.

According to army sources, a patrol team led by Warrant Officer Nazir from the Satkania Army Camp detained him after receiving information from local residents and brought him to the camp.

During initial interrogation, Fakhruddin claimed he was a retired member of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). However, during further questioning, he admitted that he had been posing as an NSI officer and demanding extortion from MP Shahjahan Chowdhury.

During the search, the army recovered a motorcycle bearing a Bangladesh Army logo sticker, an army-style money bag, a VIP cap, four photographs showing different military ranks, a Bluetooth headset, various company cards, an army leave certificate, two books, a wristwatch, and cash.

Satkania Army Camp Commander Captain S.M. Sakibuzzaman Shamim Parvez said the accused was attempting to deceive the MP and extort money by using a fake NSI identity.

After the arrest, the suspect was handed over to Satkania Police Station for legal proceedings.
