The main goal of this week’s talks between Iran and the United States in Istanbul is to prevent conflict and ease tensions, a regional official told Reuters on Tuesday. The discussions will also include a group of invited regional powers.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said countries participating at the foreign ministers’ level include Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.
While the format of the meetings is not yet finalized, the official noted that the “main meeting” is scheduled for Friday and stressed the importance of initiating dialogue to avoid further escalation.
