Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Sunday that a suspect believed to have shot a senior Russian military intelligence officer in Moscow has been detained in Dubai and transferred back to Russia.

The FSB identified the suspect as Russian citizen Lyubomir Korba, saying he was arrested in Dubai on suspicion of carrying out the attack on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, deputy head of the GRU — Russia’s military intelligence service.

Alexeyev was shot multiple times on Friday inside an apartment building in Moscow, according to investigators. Russian media reported that he underwent surgery following the attack.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Ukraine of orchestrating the assassination attempt, claiming it was intended to undermine ongoing peace negotiations. Ukraine, however, denied any involvement.

The shooting has drawn attention because Alexeyev’s superior, GRU chief Admiral Igor Kostyukov, has been heading Russia’s delegation in security-focused talks with Ukraine in Abu Dhabi about a potential peace agreement.
