London, Feb 17, 2026 — British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday night to discuss the latest developments in the U.S.-mediated Russia-Ukraine peace talks in Geneva, as well as negotiations between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear programme, a Downing Street spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, the two leaders also discussed the situation in Gaza, with Starmer stressing the importance of securing greater access for humanitarian aid.
The call came after negotiators from Ukraine and Russia concluded the first of two days of talks in Geneva on Tuesday. The discussions are being facilitated by the United States, with Trump urging Kyiv to move quickly in order to reach an agreement.
Separately, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Tuesday that Tehran and Washington had reached an understanding on “guiding principles” aimed at resolving their longstanding nuclear dispute. However, he cautioned that the progress did not mean a final deal was imminent.
Downing Street did not provide further details of the leaders’ conversation.
