U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he met Honduran President Nasry Asfura at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach.
Trump said the two countries maintain a close security partnership and are working together to combat “dangerous cartels and drug traffickers,” while also deporting undocumented migrants and suspected gang members from the United States.
Asfura, a conservative politician and businessman, was sworn in as Honduras’ president last month following a tightly contested election that was overshadowed by fraud allegations and political tensions linked to U.S. interference.
