The United States Department of Defense said on Sunday that U.S. forces carried out a maritime interdiction and boarded a vessel named Veronica III, after it attempted to defy President Donald Trump’s quarantine order.
In a statement posted on X, the Pentagon said the operation was conducted overnight in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility, and that the boarding took place without incident.
“U.S. forces conducted a right-of-visit, maritime interdiction and boarding of the Veronica III,” the department said.
The Pentagon added that U.S. forces had tracked the vessel’s movement from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, before intercepting it.
“We tracked it from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, closed the distance, and shut it down,” the statement said.
No further details were immediately provided about the vessel’s cargo, crew, or the reason behind the quarantine enforcement.
