
The Election Commission has published the gazette of the results of the parliamentary elections the day after the voting ended. As per the rules, the journey of the new parliament will begin with the swearing-in of the members of parliament.
The oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected members of parliament (MPs) will be held at 10 am on Tuesday at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building. The cabinet will also be sworn in at the same venue at 4 pm on the same day, said Asif Nazrul, Advisor on Legal, Judicial and Parliamentary Affairs.
He gave this information to reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday (February 15).
Advisor Asif Nazrul said that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin will administer the oath to the members of parliament, while the President will administer the oath to the members of the cabinet.
He said he had heard that the foreign ministers of SAARC countries have been invited to the cabinet swearing-in ceremony, in response to questions from journalists.
According to tradition, the oath of office for members of parliament was taken at the National Parliament Building and the oath of office for the cabinet was taken at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
This time, the oath-taking ceremony is being organized at the Parliament House according to the choice of the BNP, the party that will take over the responsibility of running the state.
According to sources from the Cabinet Division, all the governments sworn in since independence have been held at Bangabhaban.
