DHS Funding Deadlock Persists as Trump Moves to Pay Airport Security Workers

A funding standoff in the U.S. Congress over the Department of Homeland Security remained unresolved on Friday, threatening further travel disruptions as lawmakers failed to reach a deal after weeks of রাজনৈতিক সংঘাত.

The impasse has already halted paychecks for tens of thousands of federal workers, including many موظفين required to remain on duty. Airports across the country have reported long lines and delays, raising concerns ahead of the busy spring-break travel season.

Despite intense negotiations, lawmakers were unable to bridge differences over immigration enforcement policies. A Senate proposal to restore most DHS funding gained unanimous support but excluded funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, drawing backing from Democrats.

However, Republicans in the House rejected that plan and instead passed a temporary funding bill that included immigration enforcement—something Democrats have firmly opposed. The political divide left Congress without a resolution as lawmakers prepared to leave Washington for a two-week recess.

With the الأزمة continuing, the White House said President Donald Trump has declared an emergency measure to ensure airport security officers are paid as early as Monday.

The خطوة is expected to cover Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers, many of whom have been working without pay for weeks. However, other DHS कर्मचारীরা—including those involved in emergency response and coastal security—are likely to remain unpaid for now.

The funding lapse has already disrupted airport operations, with reports of দীর্ঘ অপেক্ষার সময় and staff shortages. Thousands of TSA officers have called in sick or resigned, with absentee rates rising sharply at major airports.

Officials warn that disruptions could worsen over the weekend if payment issues are not resolved. Some workers have reportedly taken extreme measures to cope financially, including taking second jobs or cutting basic expenses.

Democrats say they are willing to fund core homeland security functions but are demanding reforms to curb what they describe as aggressive immigration enforcement policies. Republicans, meanwhile, insist on maintaining funding for enforcement agencies.

The standoff reflects broader রাজনৈতিক tensions in Washington, where repeated shutdown battles have failed to produce lasting agreements. While the administration has shown some willingness to adjust enforcement practices, major policy differences continue to block a comprehensive deal.

As the الأزمة drags on, both travelers and federal workers face growing uncertainty, with no immediate resolution in sight.
