
According to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces carried out “active hostilities and terrorist shelling,” targeting both frontline areas and cities. The escalation comes amid competing ceasefire announcements by Ukraine and Russia earlier this week, with no agreement reached on terms, duration, or monitoring mechanisms.
Moscow had first proposed a temporary truce for 8–9 May to coincide with Victory Day, marking the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany. Kyiv responded by announcing its own open-ended ceasefire starting মঙ্গলবার midnight, pledging to act “symmetrically.”
Zelensky said Russia’s continued attacks demonstrated “an obvious spurning of a ceasefire and of saving lives,” adding that Ukraine would determine its next steps based on military and intelligence assessments.
Heavy fighting on Tuesday reportedly killed at least 27 people across Ukraine, including 12 in Zaporizhzhia.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha criticized Moscow’s actions, stating that calls for a ceasefire were “fake” and driven by preparations for military celebrations rather than genuine diplomacy.
Russia is set to hold events this Saturday, including a military parade at Red Square. Authorities have indicated that this year’s مراسم will be scaled down due to security concerns, citing potential threats from Ukrainian drone strikes.
Residents in Moscow and St Petersburg have been warned of possible mobile internet disruptions during the period.
The Kremlin has not directly responded to Ukraine’s ceasefire initiative. Instead, it has warned of a “massive missile strike” on central Kyiv if Ukraine breaches Russia’s proposed truce.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has continued long-range drone operations inside Russia. On Tuesday, strikes reportedly reached the city of Cheboksary, more than 1,500km from Ukrainian territory, killing two people.
Russia’s defence ministry said it intercepted 53 Ukrainian drones overnight but did not clarify whether the attacks occurred after Kyiv’s ceasefire came into effect.
The latest developments highlight the deepening ռազմական stalemate and lack of coordination between the দুই পক্ষ, raising further doubts over the prospects for any meaningful ceasefire in the near term.
