A Beacon of Humane Leadership: A Memorable Courtesy Meeting with Chattogram District Police Superintendent Masud and the Gift of a Book

Some moments in life transcend ordinary encounters and become lasting memories of respect, inspiration, and shared responsibility. Today was one such meaningful occasion for me. As a journalist, researcher, writer, and television presenter, I have had the privilege of meeting many distinguished individuals throughout my professional journey. Yet, there are a few whose personality, wisdom, dedication, and humanity leave a lasting impression. Chattogram District Police Superintendent Masud is undoubtedly one of them.
Today, during a courtesy meeting at the office of the Superintendent of Police in Chattogram, I had the honor of presenting my book, “Sangbadik O Sangbadpatrer Kotha” (On Journalists and Newspapers), as a token of respect and intellectual exchange. The book is the outcome of years of journalistic experience, research, observation, and deep reflection on the role of journalism, newspapers, freedom of expression, media ethics, and the responsibilities of journalists in society.
For me, this was not merely the act of gifting a book; rather, it symbolized a meaningful bridge between responsible journalism and public administration—two institutions that play a vital role in protecting justice, truth, and public confidence.
During the meeting, what impressed me most about SP Masud was his remarkable humility, attentiveness, wisdom, and thoughtful personality. He is not only a highly professional police officer but also a humane, courageous, dedicated, and prudent leader whose sense of justice and responsibility is evident in his work and conduct.
Maintaining law and order in a geographically and socially complex district like Chattogram is undoubtedly a challenging responsibility. From urban centers to remote areas, from hills to densely populated communities, effective policing requires intelligence, integrity, courage, strategic thinking, and compassion. In this regard, SP Masud has demonstrated sincere commitment and exceptional leadership in strengthening law enforcement and ensuring public safety.
Particularly in areas such as Raozan, Rangunia, Fatikchhari, and across different parts of the district, his efforts toward maintaining stability, strengthening community-oriented policing, and building trust between law enforcement and ordinary citizens are highly commendable. His approach reflects an important truth: the real strength of policing lies not only in enforcing laws but also in winning the confidence of the people.
Throughout my journalistic life, I have encountered many law enforcement officials. Some excel in discipline, others in administration, and some in human connection. However, it is rare to find a person who embodies all these qualities together. In SP Masud, I observed a unique balance of professionalism, courage, compassion, wisdom, and justice.
What also inspired me during our discussion was his interest in books, ideas, and meaningful conversations. A society progresses when administration values knowledge and intellectual discourse. When a responsible police officer shows interest in research, journalism, and social awareness, it sends a positive message for the future.
As a journalist and writer, I firmly believe that justice, peace, and democratic values flourish when the media, administration, and civil society work not as rivals but as partners in progress. Journalists seek truth, law enforcement safeguards justice, and citizens deserve a peaceful and secure society. It is from this belief that today’s courtesy meeting felt deeply meaningful to me.
The photograph taken today, therefore, is more than a captured moment. It reflects mutual respect, intellectual appreciation, and shared responsibility. On one side stands a writer and journalist offering a work born of experience and reflection; on the other, a dedicated public servant committed to justice, humanity, and public welfare.
Time may eventually fade the colors of photographs, but some moments remain vivid in memory. Today’s meeting, the exchange of thoughts, and the presentation of my book will remain a cherished reminder of goodwill, professional respect, and a shared hope for a safer, more humane, and better-governed Chattogram.
My sincere hope remains that under the leadership of SP Masud, law and order in Chattogram will continue to strengthen, community policing will flourish, and public trust in humane administration will grow even deeper
