When we hear the name of the police, strict discipline, responsibility, firmness in suppressing crime and impartial application of the law come to our eyes. It seems that there is no separate place for emotions in their lives. But people are not just a title or a uniform. Even under the cover of strictness, a tender heart lives, where there is love for melody, longing for poetry, and deep passion for art. Today, I realized that truth anew by attending the Madhumaser Fal Utsab and Cultural Evening organized by Swaralipi Sanskriti Angana at the lively auditorium of Chittagong Shilpakala Academy. CMP Deputy Police Commissioner Amirul Islam took the stage. The voice of the one who has the firmness of responsibility in his voice every day, today the softness of the melody was captured in that voice. When he picked up the first note of the song in his microphone, it was as if his identity changed for a moment. He was no longer just a police officer—he became an artist, a musician, a kind-hearted person. There was no accent of power in his voice, no arrogance of rank. There was only the pure appeal of music. Each melody seemed to gently touch the hearts of the listeners. His voice, combined with the tunes of the tabla, guitar and keyboard, created a wonderful atmosphere. The applause of the audience repeatedly told them that no one needs an introduction to honor a good artist. Behind the stage was a colorful arrangement of various local fruits. Mango, jackfruit, litchi, jam, pineapple, watermelon—the honey of Bengal had come down to the stage of art with color and fragrance. The sweetness of music made that fruit festival even sweeter. It seemed that the sweetness of nature and the artistic consciousness of people were tied to the same tune today. Today’s event made me stand before a deep realization. Those who are responsible for ensuring the security of the state also love art, love music, love beauty. Uniforms represent their responsibilities, but art represents their humanity. Indeed, rigor may be part of a person’s profession, but tenderness is the identity of a person’s soul. Law gives order to society, and music teaches people to be human. The wonderful union of these two was seen today in the charming performance of Deputy Police Commissioner Amirul Islam.
At the end of the evening, it seemed that some moments cannot be seen only – they have to be experienced. Today’s musical evening was just such a moment. Where not a police officer, but an artist won hearts with the magic of his tunes. So it must be said – sometimes even a regular policeman becomes so funny, then it seems that the heartbeat of an incomparable artist is hidden in the folds of his uniform. Duty has given him respect, and music has given him the genuine love of people.
