Chattogram — Renowned in Bangladesh and India, Deputy Hazrat Shah Mohammad Badiul Alam Zulfakkar Shah Jahangiri (RA) (1856–1931) has been posthumously honoured 97 years after his death in recognition of his contributions. The “Itihas Award–2025,” presented by the history-focused platform Itihasher Pathshala, was awarded as a tribute to his legacy.
The award ceremony took place on April 26, 2026, at the Poet Al Mahmud Writers’ Corner of Bangla Academy during the National History Seminar and Writers’ Gathering. The award was received by Mohammad Nazmul Haque Shamim, great-grandson of Deputy Shah Mohammad Badiul Alam and editor-publisher of Chattalanama.

It is noteworthy that Deputy Shah Mohammad Badiul Alam (RA) published an English daily titled The Mohammedan Observer from Kolkata in 1892. He also authored and published the book What Is Man in 1914, which is currently studied at several universities in the United States and the United Kingdom.
In 1917, he published the Bengali translation of Futuh al-Ghaib, a work associated with the great Sufi saint Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA), helping to introduce his teachings to Bengali-speaking audiences across the Indian subcontinent.
Earlier, in 1883, he served with distinction as a Deputy Magistrate in the Noakhali region of British India. He was also imprisoned in Delhi’s Red Fort alongside several Indian political leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi.
